The Tsugaru region of Aomori Prefecture has a traditional craft known as [Tsugaru Sakiori]. In the Edo period, the Tsugaru peninsula was a port for Kitamae ships, and Tsugaru fishermen wore indigo-coloured, smooth-feeling work clothes called 'saguri'. Close inspection of the 'saguri' reveals that the outer fabric was beautifully indigo-dyed, whereas the warp threads of the inner fabric were not. This can be seen as a symbol of the poverty of the Tsugaru region at the time. However, if you look at it from a different perspective, it can be a reversible, making use of the texture of the material, couldn’t it be a characteristic technique unique to Tsugaru SAKIORI? This was the approach that conceived this.
